Sumo wrestling

Build sumo wrestlers that push each other out of the ring.

This project is compatible with the following eXperiBot sets:

  • Two eXperiBot Explorer sets

  • eXperiBot Explorer 4-piece set

  • Smart Team set

Many thanks to Lars Pelz, whose idea led to this project!

Task

Your eXperiBot competes as a sumo wrestler in a ring against other eXperiBots. It should travel across the entire surface of the ring, trying to push its opponents over the edge without leaving the ring itself.

Setup

To get started, simply set up your eXperiBot as an Explorer. To ensure your sumo wrestler is a real challenge, you should equip it with arms that allow it to push the other eXperiBots out of the ring more effectively.

Assembly with Grabber fingers

For the setup shown in the picture below, you will need the fingers from the Grabber module included in the eXperiBot Smart Team Set.

Assembly with the Explorer set and additional building blocks

If you are using the Explorer set, you can use building blocks from other building block systems to help you out. Use the adapter plate—which is usually used for the “foot” of the eXperiBot—and attach it to the top of your eXperiBot or anywhere else where you would like to attach additional blocks.

If you don’t have any building blocks available, you can also try using paper, pens, and tape. You’re sure to find a solution!

The Ring

Take a large sheet of paper (at least A2 size) and draw a circular black outline on it that’s at least 3 cm wide. The ring doesn’t have to be a perfect circle. If the line is too narrow or not dark enough, your eXperiBot might not recognize it when it drives over it.

Alternatively, you can use black tape for the boundary line.

Distinguish eXperiBots from one another

To help you distinguish your eXperiBot from your opponent’s sumo wrestler, assign the front Multisensor an LED color that differs from that of the other eXperiBot.

Hints

Hint 1

Modify your eXperiBot so that it can push other eXperiBots out of the ring more effectively. If you manage to lift the other eXperiBot, it will have a hard time defending itself!

Hint 2

Prevent another eXperiBot from lifting your eXperiBot’s wheels off the ground.

Hint 3

If you detect another eXperiBot with the front Multisensor, go full speed ahead!

Hint 4

Use the following blocks to determine whether your eXperiBot is currently being attacked by another eXperiBot:
